The Cherry Hill Concert Series welcomes husband and wife duo Jonathan Levin, pianist, and Angelique Alexander, mezzo-soprano, for an afternoon of music on September 27.
The program brings together familiar favorites and lesser-known works, ranging from opera and Romantic art song to music written during one of the darkest periods of modern history. Featured selections include arias by Tchaikovsky and Puccini, songs by Johannes Brahms, and several songs by Ilse Weber, a Jewish composer and poet whose music was written during the Holocaust.
The program will also feature “Your Arms”, a song written collaboratively by Alexander and Levin, as well as two of Rachmaninoff’s celebrated Preludes, Op. 23, performed by Levin.
To round out the afternoon, Levin will perform Franz Liszt’s “March of the Three Kings”, Listz’s own transcription of music from his Christus Oratorio.
With music that is by turns dramatic, intimate, reflective, and virtuosic, the afternoon offers something for both longtime classical music listeners and anyone simply looking for an enjoyable afternoon of live music close to home.
