An acclaimed Steinway artist will return to Cherry Hill on Sunday, April 30th at 3:00 PM. Vincent van Gelder delighted his Inez audience in 2016 with his virtuosity, and this year’s performance promises to equal the first.
Vincent van Gelder was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He studied at several academies and universities in Holland, Latvia, and the United States, receiving two masters and subsequently a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Missouri. His most influential teachers were Leslie Howard, Czerny-Stefanska, Teofils Bikis, Arnis Zandmanis, Wilfred Delphin, and Richard Cass.
Dr. van Gelder has won top prizes in many national and international piano competitions, including the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition, Artist International Competition, and the St. Louis Artist Presentation competition. He has performed in several countries in Europe and in many states in the US, including a well-reviewed solo recital at Carnegie Hall. He has been a soloist with several orchestras. As a chamber pianist he performed with musicians like Dmitri Sitkovetski, members of the Ciompi Quartet, and his wife, Inara Zandmane. Van Gelder recently started a collaboration with composer Alejandro Rutty, who wrote a piano concerto for him that van Gelder premiered with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. van Gelder has received numerous awards, most recently for video recordings of several programs and two CDs.His recordings have been played on radio and TV stations in the US as well as in The Netherlands. He has been a member of the piano faculty at Duke University and has just performed a well-reviewed recital in London, England.
Dr. van Gelder founded the Triad Institute for Young Musicians in September 2015, an organization that promotes professional support in the form of competitions, master classes, concerts and more for pre-college musicians.
This Sunday’s performance will include Beethoven’s “Rage Over the Lost Penny”, Liszt’s “Mephisto Waltz”, and works by Chopin, Ravel, and Liszt.
Dr, Gelder is a Steinway & Sons top educator. Upcoming concerts will be in The Netherlands, US, and Iceland.
Cherry Hill, an 1850s plantation in Inez in southern Warren County, has been the venue for classical music performances since 1982.
